Escape from the long winter to a warm welcoming retreat in Puerto Vallarta Mexico!
Artists attending will paint on location, in tropical Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Each session will be held outdoors, utilizing the natural light and unique environment Puerto Vallarta offers, or on location in the gardens at the expansive Hacienda where we will be staying. Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful city filled with colorful buildings, and friendly locals. Kim will be painting a brief demo in the morning to get your creative juices flowing! Participants may choose to paint along side Kim or simply take the time to gather photographs, shop, or simply absorb the wonderful sights, non-painters are welcome. We will come together at lunch and evening meals to discuss the day’s events and paintings. Kim will also critique your works upon request, and help with problem solving and fresh ideas. Students will enjoy two free days, Friday and Saturday to paint on their own, relax at the pool or spend a day at one of the many beaches.
Guests will be staying at a large garden Hacienda with a swimming pool, surrounded by lush gardens full of Palm, Mango, Guayaba, and Banana trees. To enhance your senses, you will also take in the scents and beauty of flowering Ginger, Hibiscus, Jasmine, Bird of Paradise, and the ever present Bougainvillea. The art filled Hacienda is located in Colonia Versalles, a traditional upscale Mexican neighborhood that affords painters the charm of daily life in old Mexico. You will find cobbled streets where tortilliarias and markets cater mostly to the locals. The beach is only blocks away, and the Hacienda is conveniently centrally located.
Our group will travel in comfort in a large van with air conditioning. Our private driver, Gregario, will be making sure that we get to our locations away from the Hacienda without a hitch. And for a change of scenery, one day of the week we will visit Sayulita, a small Pacific coast surfing town north of the city. This small quaint town is about one hour away from Puerto Vallarta, and is home to many Americans who have chosen to relocate and live there.
I personally went to Puerto Vallarta in October, made all the arrangements, and visited the places where we will be staying and painting. It is sure to be a wonderful week full of excitement and fun, not to mention the great light that looms over this coastal city. April is a great month with less humidity and temps in the low 80’s.
$2250 includes: private room with bath, breakfast every day, 3 lunches, and 3 dinners with wine, beer or margarita happy hours at the Hacienda provided by Art in the Aspens. Also provided; ground transportation for our day trip to Sayulita and gratuities for our driver. Mineral Spirits will also be provided. A $35 model fee is not included.
The Hacienda is located 3.5 miles from the airport, a $16 fare. Students are responsible for their cab fare to and from the airport. A map will be provided upon registration along with all the pertinent information you will need.
Participants are responsible for their own air fare, ranging from $390- $500 round trip or $200 from Houston.
